The Key to Losing Fat May Not Be Aerobics Alone

Friday, June 13th, 2008

By Mike Lloyd While many people falsely believe that aerobic exercise is the only way to burn fat, this is a fallacy that will leave them lacking the tools needed to improve their overall health and make the fat loss a permanent part of their lives. Aerobic training is mostly low-intensity, long duration exercise. A person will continue to burn calories for several hours after aerobic exercise. However, this is not the only method of fat loss, and it may not be the most effective. Other advertisements claim that certain crash diets will promote fat loss. No crash diet is a permanent answer. Even if an individual sees results from following an extreme diet, as soon as they begin to eat normally again, the weight is destined to return. In addition, crash diets leave your body lacking in vital nutrients, which can leave you tired, depressed, and unmotivated. A healthy diet can certainly aid in fat loss. A nutritional plan low in fat, moderate in whole grains and other good carbohydrates, and high in lean protein will promote weight loss and help increase a persons metabolism, especially when evenly spaced as five to six small meals throughout the day. However, if a person has been eating poorly for an extended period of time, or leads a sedentary lifestyle, diet alone will probably not produce the desired results. The metabolism will need to be jumpstarted to help begin the desired weight loss. In many cases, this can be done with a zig-zag type diet, which will keep the body guessing as to how much food to expect, in turn causing it to burn more calories. One of the most effective methods of fat loss by far is to increase lean body mass with resistance training (i.e., weight training). Increasing muscle mass will actually cause a persons metabolism to increase, so that they are burning fat around the clock, even while sleeping. Resistance training causes small tears to the muscles, which will cause the body to burn fat while repairing and rebuilding the muscle. This typically occurs while the body rests, which is why it is vital for a person to get plenty of sleep. Gaining a mere 10 pounds of muscle can burn up to 5 pounds of fat per month, or 62 pounds in a year! Muscle also gives a person the lean and toned fit look that so many people desire. While aerobic training is an important element for fat loss, a person should combine it with resistance exercise to add lean body mass, a healthy diet to feed the body with needed nutrients, and at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, for the ultimate body transformation in the shortest possible time frame. Mediterranean Diet - Wonderful & Lousy Reasons for Losing Weight

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

By Ray Darken Lousy Reasons to Lose Weight “I want to be a size 0.” “You can never be too thin.” “I want to fit into the same clothes I wore in high school.” “I want to be a waif.” “People will see me as more glamorous.” “People will see me as more childlike.” “Thin people are more popular.” “I want to look like a model.” “Every one else is underweight.” “I want higher cheek bones.” “People will be nicer to me if I am smaller.” “Other people tell me I look fat even though I am within the ideal body weight limits.” “If I lose all of the weight for good, maybe I can stop throwing up after I eat once and for all.” If any of the comments above resemble your own rationale for losing weight then you don’t have a weight problem. But you may well have a psychological problem. You simply might not be mentally or emotionally prepared to handle any weight loss problem. Consult with a qualified therapist to get to the bottom of this issue in case its a cognitive disorder. A cognitive disorder is when someone suffers from a distorted view of herself, the world or how others see her. Wonderful Reasons to Lose Weight I want to climb stairs without losing my breath. I want to be able to fit into a dress I wore a year ago. I want to play football with my son again. I want to take up less room when I sit on the bus. I want to stop avoiding my reflection in shop windows and mirrors.
I want to go swimming and feel comfortable in a swim suit. I want to go on rides in an amusement park. I want to feel confident about having my picture taken. I want to stop choosing restaurants on the strength of their chairs. I want to define where my chest ends and my waist starts. I am happy to be any size between 14 and 16. I want to increase my self-esteem. I want to reduce the strain on my muscles and back I want to have better cardio-vascular health I want to increase my lean muscle mass I want to increase my flexibility I want to stop being stared at when I order in restaurants I want to adopt healthy eating habits I want to have a waist again. I want to see my feet again. I don’t want to snore so loudly. I am borderline diabetic. I don’t want to burden my family with my future medical costs I want to change my lifestyle so I am healthier. I want to decrease what I pay on my health insurance. I want to be alive to play with my children or grandchildren. There are many ways to proceed with weight loss, but none better than the safe and easy path. Nutrition and a planned approach are all important. Think carefully before jumping in and you will succeed. Author Ray Darken - Ray often writes for and works with The Mediterranean Diet. Handling an Alaska Halibut

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

By Marc Theiler Landing an Alaska halibut can be an exciting endeavour for first time halibut fishermen and can even get a little scary for seasoned fishing veterans. The Alaskan, Pacific halibut is one of the most popular fish to catch in Alaska and can reach sizes of 400lbs or more! The majority of a halibut’s mass is pure muscle and an improperly landed halibut can cause injury and possibly even death. I once saw a deckhand pull up a 50 pound halibut onto the deck without shooting or clubbing the fish. He tried to subdue the angry, twitching fish, the halibut’s tail came back smacked him in the knee and broke his leg. There are many horror stories out there of black eyes, cracked ribs, and broken bones. Bringing a halibut aboard safely and properly is the foremost priority of a good captain. Many skippers will argue that the use of a gun on halibut 50 pounds or more is a must, while others opt for a flying gaff or both. A few halibut fishermen even use a net, but only on the small “little butts”. When shooting a halibut one must aim properly behind the head to sever the spine and most importantly trying not to destroy the halibut cheeks, the tastiest part of the halibut.
As with any fish you want to keep the halibut’s head under the water until it’s either been shot or clubbed properly. Never bring a fish aboard that isn’t dead first. When gaffing a halibut, aim for a solid spot right below the eyes on the skull and make sure you have a good hold on the fish. It’s a good idea to wait for the fish to become tired and then bleeding them along side the boat. Cutting the gill rakers and bleeding in the fish helps the overall quality of the meat. By using a little common sense and care you can ensure an outstanding Alaska fishing trip and a freezer full of one of the best tasting fish on the planet. If you aren’t the deckhand or skipper just remember to give them adequate space. Never try and help the crew they will certainly let you know when it is the safest time to touch your fish and take pictures. Good luck on your next Alaska halibut fishing trip, remember dress accordingly, be safe, and most of all have a good time. Marc Theiler - Alaska Fishing Guide

Online Loans

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Phil_Drew]Phil Drew Online loans can save you a lot of time and money and give you fast access to our top lending companies on the market. There are a number of different loan products available but they generally fall into the category of secured loans and unsecured loans. People take out online loans for small and large sums of money and for a host of different reasons. It may be to buy your first new home, do home improvements, go on holiday, buy a car or to consolidate a number of outstanding debts on store and credit cards or loans. If youre a homeowner you can apply for secured online loans. These loans are granted using your home as security or collateral and because the lender has your home as insurance against the loan they are taking less of a risk and will offer you lower interest rates. You are taking a greater risk because youre betting your home that you will repay the money you have borrowed. This means that if you should fall on hard times and are unable to pay back the loan you will be putting your home in danger of repossession. A mortgage loan is also a secured loan because the lender has the property as insurance until its paid off in full. There are two types of mortgage online loans: interest only and repayment mortgages. In the case of interest only mortgages, only the interest due on the amount borrowed is paid monthly so the capital does not diminish through the period of the mortgage. The borrower takes out an alternative repayment plan by investing in an ISA (independent savings account), an endowment policy or a pension. With a repayment mortgage a portion of the capital and interest is paid monthly so the borrowed amount decreases with each payment until, at the end of the term, the property is paid in full. Unsecured online loans are offered at competitive rates from loan companies but interest rates are higher as a rule than for secured online loans. This is because the lender is not given any insurance or collateral to back up the loan. With a higher perceived risk comes higher interest rate. The granting of these loans and the exact interest rate you are offered depends on a number of different factors. These include your past credit record, your financial situation and your ability to pay back the money to the lender. Even though it appears that you are taking less of a risk with unsecured online loans, in practice, the lender can still take out proceedings against you if you default and dont pay back the loan. The interest rate charged on online loans varies from one lender to another and is known as the Annual Percentage Rate or APR. The APR charged also changes depending on the method of application; applications by telephone can have a higher interest rate than for online applications. This is due to the fact that the lender saves money on overheads with online loans and passes this saving on to you. In order to compare the APRs from different companies it will be easier if you are familiar with the different ways in which interest rates are quoted. A interest rate that is fixed means that the amount you pay each month will not change along with ups and downs in the bank base rate and youll know exactly how much you will need to budget each month. A variable interest rate means that the amount you pay each month could change through the term of the loan, depending on fluctuations in the bank base rate. Payday Loan Applications

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kristy_Annely]Kristy Annely A payday loan is an unsecured, short-term cash advance that is repaid by borrowers on or before their next payday. These loans are taken by borrowers to meet unexpected expenses. Though they have a high interest rate, many people prefer these loans because the application process is fairly simple and the funds are released within 48-72 hours. Payday loan applications are processed quickly and do not require a detailed evaluation by the lender. Though payday loan applications are simple and easy, the application procedures tend to vary slightly from one lending body to another. Most lenders approve an application if the applicant has a checking account, which is at least 90 days old, is employed with a company for a minimum period and has a monthly net income of a predetermined amount. Payday loans applications are approved within 24 hours and the funds are transferred to the borrowers checking account on the next business day. Borrowers are usually asked whether they will make the full and final payments on the due date. In most cases, the loan payment is taken by a direct debit transaction on the due date. When a payday loan application is approved, the lending institution will take a check from the borrower as a security for its payment. The check has to be made out to an amount that is equal to the sum of the borrowed amount and the interest accumulated on it. On the due date, the borrower may pay the due money through a different mode and retain the check or ask the borrower to cash it in. If the borrower wants to proceed with another payday loan application, then the accrued interest is usually paid and the loan amount is carried forward. Payday loan companies have been witnessing an increasing number of applications, over the last few years. This is a pointer to its popularity as a loan product. Studies have revealed that many borrowers key in multiple applications for payday loans. How to Monetise Your Free Blog on My Speed Business Network

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

By Christine Anne Sutherland Today I want to focus on how you can get blogs to really work for you, drawing not only interest from other members, but also inspiring them to get in touch and comment, increasing the level of engagement and increasing the possibility of forming relationships that are rewarding in all sorts of ways! I know a lot of people think blogs are rubbish and I don’t blame them one bit. A blog is nothing more than a silly waste of space unless the content has value to the reader. This article, adapted from a blog post on My Speed Business Network, is an example. It seeks to add value to you, the reader, by giving information that will lead to your direct benefit. It seeks to tell you how to help develop your business through using the free resources on this site. As our membership grows, you’ll start to see people commenting on these little tips, adding their own thoughts and tips, and increasing the value of the whole thing. You can do this with your own business. Most business people have excellent articles or reports that are of immense interest to their target market. For instance an insurance broker would have articles on risk management, a financial planner would have articles on wealth building strategies, an accountant would have articles on cash flow management, a florist might have articles on types of flowers or flower arrangements, a veterinarian would have material on pet care, and so on. If you don’t have articles, you can of course have a professional write them up for you, or use articles generated by other people in your industry (with permission of course!). These articles become your blog posts, and people will read them and engage with them because you’ve created themed content that people actually want. This is very different to the well-meaning friend who mass mails their inbox to say “buddies, I’ve started a blog so that I can keep you up to date with my life, and now all you have to do is take the trouble to log into my blog every day and read my boring ramblings, and you’ll all know what I’m up to.” Blech. We’d never do that kind of blog, would we :-) So now its time to think about what kind of content your client base would be totally captivated by. What would compel them to engage in discussion with you? What would compel them to pass it on to their friends and colleagues so that they would join your blog also? If you already know the answer to that, fantastic, what are you waiting for, hop onto My Speed Business Network and get started. If you dont know, or would like feedback first, help is available for free on My Speed Business Network. We love quality blogs on our site and wed love to help you get yours going. Meeting Your Online Date in Safety

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

By Caroline Mackenzie Here are some common sense safety tips for meeting your online date in person. Your instincts will play a strong role in keeping you safe too, so listen to them and take action if you feel uncomfortable or alarmed at any time. Remember, theres also a good chance that your date is perfectly genuine. Tread a sensible line between optimism and caution and your date will be safe and enjoyable. Meet when youre ready: Dont be pressured into meeting your online date. One of the big attractions of online dating is that you can find out the important stuff - be sure theres a real possibility for a relationship up front, so take your time and make the most of it. Your offline date should confirm and enhance your feelings, not lead to disappointment, or nasty surprises! Meet in a public place: Hopefully most of you are yawning at this. However, when youve built up some trust online, and happen to share an interest in lonely country walks, say, a lonely country walk might seem like a great idea for a first date. Give yourself a severe reality check when arranging a first date. First dates should always be in well-populated, public places. Meet in a familiar or well-known area: You need to be able to find your way home, or back to your hotel room, quickly and easily. Dont travel into unfamiliar neighborhoods and if youve traveled to an unfamiliar city to meet your date, choose a hotel in a central area thats well known to taxi drivers and locals. Meet in a place where youre not well known: For first dates, avoid favorite hangouts where everyone knows you and your business. Your date can return to pry information out of your favorite bartender or friends, or turn up uninvited bad news if you decide not to pursue the relationship. Travel independently: Revealing where you live, where youre staying or getting into a strange vehicle puts you at risk. Be sure to make your own way to and from your date, and dont be persuaded otherwise. If you make your travel arrangements ahead of time, youll have a good excuse for refusing any offers to pick you up or drop you home, and if your dates half the person you think they are, theyll respect your independence and caution. Make your own arrangements: Dont let your date take over and make all the decisions about where you go, what you do, and, if youre traveling from another city, where you stay. Make your own travel arrangements (Ive said this already, but its important), book your own hotel, and make sure you and your common sense get to play a big role in deciding when and where your date takes place. Tell a friend or relative about your date: Make sure someone knows who youre meeting (their full name and phone number), when, where and at what time you expect to be back. Take your cell phone: If you dont have a cell phone, borrow one. Arrange for someone to call you at a certain time to check up on how your date is going, and how youre feeling about it. Agree beforehand on some phrases that will let them know, without giving the game away to your date, whether its going well or whether you need to put a pre-arranged escape plan into action. Dont drink too much: Sure, a drink can calm your nerves but be careful not to overdo it and lose your ability to make safe and sensible decisions. Leave if you feel uncomfortable: Youre excited about your date, you want it to go well, to give it every chance of success but (and its a big but) dont let this tempt you into ignoring or excusing the fact that something doesnt feel right. If it doesnt feel right it probably isnt. Trust your instincts, admit it and get out of there. If necessary, enlist the help of a waiter or manager or some other person that can help you make a get away, perhaps feigning a call from home or showing you an alternative way out of the building. Remember though, its not necessary to explain yourself to your date. Simply leave. Watch for strange behavior: When you meet offline, dating should fall into a natural, comfortable pattern. Stop dating if it doesnt. For instance, if your date always wants to meet some distance from where they live or work, is reluctant to introduce you to friends or family, or has strange rules about how and when you call each other, somethings very wrong. Depression - An Emotional Crippler

Monday, May 19th, 2008

By Michael Russell Depression is an emotional crippler. There is no disease in the world that can do to a person what depression can do. A person suffering from Depression can be physically fit, have no physical problems, not even a runny nose and yet still be unable to get out of bed in the morning. Yes, depression is that devastating. Unlike a physical disease, like MS or Cancer, there are no outward physical symptoms of depression. It isn’t something we can diagnose with an MRI or an x-ray. Depression is in the mind and modern medical science knows so relatively little about the human brain that it is very difficult to diagnose someone with severe depression. But it is a crippler just the same. Every case of depression is different. Severe depression, however, is usually very easy to spot. For starters, the person who is severely depressed will want to spend most of the day in bed sleeping. There are two reasons for this. One is that depression takes a terrible toll on one’s body. Every minute of depression is like an eternity. This makes getting through the day very difficult. As a result, the person gets very tired and needs as much rest as possible. The second reason for this is that a person who is severely depressed feels that sleep is the only escape from the terrible feeling that hangs over them day and night. The problem is, people who are severely depressed have a difficult time sleeping, so there is really no escape from this illness. Another symptom of someone who is severely depressed is that the person seems to walk around in a fog all day. They can’t concentrate on the things they have to do and if they have a job it is almost impossible to do that job. Many people who become severely depressed end up quitting their jobs because they just can’t cope with life in general and working a demanding job is the last thing they’re able to handle. Many people who are seriously depressed look for any little thing to pull themselves out of it. The chance to go to a bar or maybe down to the beach is looked at as a vacation. These people usually manage to get themselves very emotionally high for a brief time where it looks like they have conquered their depression. But soon after the high has worn off, they fall back into their pit of despair. These people are called manic depressants because they have severe highs and lows. Because depression does take a toll on a person’s body, other symptoms are lack of appetite, changes in bathroom habits, loss of weight and other things. The sad thing is, the mind can literally do harm to the rest of the body if the mind is not healthy. Depression is indeed an emotional crippler. The problem is, most people who are severely depressed won’t seek help because they can’t admit they are depressed as it is a sign of weakness. So the first thing to do, if you know somebody who you suspect is severely depressed is to urge them to get help. By doing just that much, they are one step closer to dealing with this terrible problem. Getting What You Want As A Step-Parent

Friday, May 16th, 2008

By Joanne Ball Early on in my stepfamily life I wanted to get on well with everyone, be happy, be energetic and be everyones friend especially the children. For me, the desire to be accepted by them was significant. My stepchildren were then 3 and 9. The desire to be accepted was present at different levels for each of the children. With the 3 year old the need wasnt so great. I was comfortable reminding her to pick something up or to explain how something was a bit naughty. But it was very different with the 9 year old. He needed reminding about things too, but I couldnt bring myself to do the job out of fear of becoming a nag and being disliked by him. Consequently I bit me lip on. Did the lip biting have a negative effect? Yes. I became more negative and frustrated towards my stepson and that had an impact on my relationship with my partner. It got to the stage where I could hardly be in the same room as my stepson without noticing something he was doing wrong. I didnt tell his dad at risk of nagging and moaning and I didnt want to alienate myself with my stepson (which I was doing through my non-verbal communication anyway). The pressure was building within me and I wasnt enjoying being a stepmum at all. Something had to change. You must learn how to communicate your needs effectively I learnt a long time ago that you cant control or change other people and that you need to be the change you want to see. So I realised that it was me who needed to change, not my stepson. Through exploring what was going wrong I discovered that I wasnt communicating my needs effectively. In fact I discovered that Id NEVER been any good at communicating my needs and was probably even suppressing them. So what are our needs? These are going to be different for us all but generally we all need to be loved, understood, to feel connected, to feel special, to feel secure, respected, listened too, etc. By not communicating what I needed I wasnt helping myself or my family. In fact I was doing the opposite. Once I realised this I knew it was my responsibility, for the success and health of my family, to make sure I communicated what I needed. So I discovered how to do that. After over 30 years of not communicating my needs I do still need to make a conscious effort to get it right. What are the results? Now I easily get 10 minutes peace and quiet after dinner. The children put their washing in the laundry basket, take care of a few tasks around the house and speak to me with more pleases and thank yous than before. These few simple things have made a positive difference to my family. Things run more smoothly now and I have a more peaceful state of mind! Until next time!
